The Push, The Pull, 2011 oil on canvas 120 x 100 cm An image-dominated culture is explored in this work. There is a tension between masculine and feminine, portrayal and reality. I painted this at a time when I felt the advertising industry had a push and a pull over me, and I wanted to show that it did for those behind the glossy magazines too. I was captivated that the two figures seem to be struggling with each other for dominance over the composition. The work has very finely painted facial details and some bright, unexpected colour nuances. |
